Burghmuir: Application for 200 houses

by on August 12, 2013

This application was refused by West Lothian Council.  Wallace Land lodged an appeal with Scottish Ministers but it has now been decided and supports WLC’s decision.

A planning application was lodged by Geddes Consulting on behalf of Wallace Land for up to 200 houses, on 12.6ha of land, at Burghmuir.

This is the southern part of the wider application site for 600 houses plus a supermarket (etc.) lodged in 2012 and withdrawn earlier in 2013, following a council planning officers’ recommendation for refusal.  The site is to the south of the A803, in countryside outwith the eastern edge of the settlement boundary of Linlithgow.

Can we confirm that today is the deadline for comments FOR/AGAINST? If not – when.

The timescales are 14, 21, 28 days from advertisement. It’s likely to be 21 days but the Development Management staff can advise on 01506 282456. There’s no reason why late comments should not be considered rather than automatically rejected.

The council website states that representations won’t be displayed because of the expected high volume of representations (objections?!) I find this surprising as the application has been very low-key compared to last time. There is no superstore and the scale is somewhat smaller, with less of a visual impact… however, the size and location mean is clearly premature in the absence of a spatial strategy and identified housing requirements for Linlithgow.
